Madame Fifi Publications grew from the French 1-4AP classrooms of Sue Fenton, MEd., where speaking was the priority skill, starting with level 1. There were few speaking resources and text language was limited," so Sue created her own resources to give students far more substitutions and choices get her students motivated and talking. Colleagues asked, "How do you get your students to be fluent?" She answered, "I just let them talk."
Sue's resources turned into books to support other teachers. Her first book was "Over 1,000 Conversation Starters" on setting up a communicative classroom. "French Chat Boosters" and "Spanish Chat Boosters" were goldmines of language for students on dozens of topics. Madame Fifi was born. Sue continued to write methods books and resources to help teachers increase student speaking proficiency. She and her materials were featured in Teacher's Discovery for over a decade as well as in Applause and many other catalogs. Sue began speaking at conferences (local, regional, ACTFL) and presented many 2 to 5-hour workshops for schools and districts around the country. She has presented keynotes. She created & trademarked VRL - Virtual Residence Language™ - a method in which students "move" into their own apartments in a world city for the year to learn language and speak it in authentic culture contexts all over the city.
Madame Fifi also features sets of cool signs on many topics. "Quick Prompts" on making any classroom more communicative with 1,000s of prompts for speeches and drama. A songwriter, she co-created two "Oh, Là Là - Sing Your Way to French" albums. Sue is known for her energy and creativity and ability to motivate. She has been doing improvisation and stand-up. Her sense of humor and fun are woven in all her products.
